Electro Magnificent Pop Geniuses
White Williams
Nurtured in the arson-prone fatalism of Cleveland's DIY scene, 23-year-old Joe Williams, noise-rock dilettante and White Williams' mastermind, made a name for himself twice touring with Gregg Gillis (Girl Talk), Andrew Strasser, Frank Musarra (Hearts of Darknesses) and Luke Venezia (Drop the Lime). Together, through countless venues of ill-repute, they forced their cartooned audio effluvia in the ears of hapless art-students, transients and skin-heads. Inevitably, Joe was saved by pop music. Smoke is his self-invented messiah. Recorded in various sublets over two years in Cleveland, Cincinnati, New York, and San Francisco, using a laptop, analog synths and a mutable selection of studio equipment, White Williams' first album is unapologetic pop that flirts with the vacuous nostalgia of the American dream; e ngaging ambiguous and schizophrenic instruments with impressionistic lyrics, driven by a casually heterosexual backbeat. Polished, familiar and addictive like the sound of sex in a futuristic hospital, Smoke portends a time where energy-drinking teenagers undress each other with night-vision goggles. As an amalgam of adolescent telepathy and mature awareness: White Williams is the soundtrack to our dreams of a lustful and indifferent prom night that lasts forever.

Dan Deacon
Dan Deacon is a furry ball of imagination and childlike wonder. In his world, convention is thrown out a 20th-story window and beaten with a bright red plastic hammer. Dan uses electronic gizmos, keyboards, and stuff he found in the trash to create amusing and confusing sounds, blended with absurd lyrics about undersea racing and feline entrepreneurs. He is also a classically trained composer. As for Deacon and 2007, he has managed to release three outstanding full lengths, below is Spiderman of The Rings.

Y.A.C.H.T
Jona Bechtolt is a technological multi talent: his band, YACHT, is an amalgamation of self-taught dance moves and anthemic electro-power jams all played backwards and covered in cherry cola. YACHT shows are uncluttered, inspiring sessions of improbable dancing and synchronized crowd-waving; the songs shudder happily into the air, and any preconceived notions of what makes an energetic performance are shattered by Bechtolt's own strain of shamanistic bombast. Bechtolt has been a promiscuous genre-smasher since his adolescence, when he decided that playing drums in the touring punk band he formed with his older brother was more worthwhile than attending a single day of high school. He's plied his unique breed of laptop wizardry and grunge ethos to endless collaborations, both as drummer and producer, with west coast mainstays like Panther, Little Wings, Mt. Eerie, Bobby Birdman, Devendra Banhart, E*Rock, and most currently The Blow. On his most recent release, I Believe In You. Your Magic Is Real., Bechtolt reveals just how important it is to come original and realize how crucial it is to do the things we're good at.

Panda Bear
Panda Bear is the alias of Noah Lennox, one of the two core members of Animal Collective, along with Avey Tare (a.k.a Dave Portner). In Animal Collective, Noah's primary role is that of a drummer, though he also plays other instruments and sings. He adopted the name Panda Bear from an early tape of his material, on which he drew a panda. He's married and lives in Libson, Portugal with his wife and kid. His most recent album, Person Pitch, was released earlier this year.

Drone-tastic!
A Place To Bury Strangers
One of my favorites this fall, A Place to Bury Strangers, are claimed to be the noisiest band in NYC, and judging by their recently release self-titled LP comprised of several bellowing drones and custom made pedals, I am not surprised. As for their debut EP, that disc came out on tiny New England imprint Killer Pimp Records, but for the next two, A Place to Bury Strangers have inked with Chicago-based upstart Highwheel Records. They already have plans to pack their custom-made pedals and travel to the Windy City to record in December, with eyes on having another release stuffed with all-new material out in early 2008.

.... of similar sound
Deerhunter
Deerhunter began in 2001 with the ambition of fusing the lulling hypnotic states induced by ambient and minimalist music with the klang and propulsion of garage rock. The band has weathered chaotic line-up changes, the death of a member, and much discouragement. Their live performances almost always leave audiences polarized, and have been referred to by Karen O of Yeah Yeah Yeahs in NME as bordering on "a religious experience." Cryptograms is the second full-length offering from Deerhunter, and their first for Kranky. The album took almost two years to finish and was the product of emotional, physical, and financial strain on the group. The result is an album that finds the band shifting from discordant catharsis, and forming a sonic identity that completely expresses the place from which they have arrived. Later this year, they hit with yet another releas, EP entitled Fluorescent Grey.

Indian Jewelry
Indian Jewelry is a group from Houston, Texas that is known for its droning vision music and seizure-inducing stage show. Like other Houston Noise Bands and their psychedelic rock predecessors, Indian Jewelry are prone to sonic and comic experiments. At the core Indian Jewelry is a titanic void constantly eating its own and everyone else's. Their most recent album, Invasive Exotics was released last year on Monitor records following a string of EPs, one being Rattling Death Train.

People Noise
People Noise is a name that constitutes sound, and a lot of it. They began making music in early January of 2006 after a ten year involvement with VHS or Beta came to a halt. One of the founding members of VoB, Zeke Buck, together with Matt Johnson on drums, have set out to do some of the things that they were never really able to do before in past groups. There is a very human and somewhat introverted playfulness that appears on songs like 'A Million Lives' & ‘The Sun & The Moon, The Moon & The Sea’. Desperate and spirited Aphex Twin like moments which at very times breaks in an external guitar driven frenzy. It gives quick glimpse to some of the earlier songs on their upcoming album (songs like 'Sedation', and 'Harrison Bergeron'). Their range recalls some of the earlier alternative rock days of bands like Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana & Radiohead, yet still birthing a sincerity and un-retro quality altogether its own.

Clipd Beaks
Clipd Beaks was formed in early 2003 in Minneapolis, Minnesota by Aric Blodgett, Nic Barbeln, Greg Pritchard, Ray Benjamin and Scott Ecklein. Upon listening you might think about Liars trying to belt their tribal, Kraut-y Drum's Not Dead or Liars material from a sinking ship. The young Oakland foursome play a blustery, plaster-cast post-punk that's made all the more waterlogged and claustrophobic with a noise-rock's sense of scree and jagged, Sightings-style DNA-peeled rhythms. The sound's tightly rickety, in the best way possible: You get the sense the taut, stuttered rhythm section could come unglued at any second, though, of course, it only does when they feel like it. Despite an early self-released Gang Caves and last year's Preyers EP on Tigerbeat6, most folks will likely come to the band via their first proper full-length, Hoarse Lords released by the venerable Lovepump United, run by Genghis Tron's Decibel-columnist-in-residence Mookie Singerman, and home to fellow BTW HEALTH.

APES
Alright, if you're in love with Yeasayer, Man Man, Portugal. The Man, or just gypsy-esque circus-ish things in general then this band will blow your socks off! Just emerging, with already a platter full of tracks, the Apes are rumored to obtain one of the top Album slots for the indie music community in 2008 with their soon to be released LP. For now heres a peak at their psychedelic Detroit awesomeness.

Austrialians Cate Porter, Isaac Emmanuel, Matthew Harrison, and Troy O'Shea make up the fast moving, fame gaining ultra sexy Flamingo Crash. First hitting the community in 2005 with their debut EP Animal / Animal Economy, the band has come back with a wake a up call or a few rather, releasing their debut LP, Ready For Love, followed by another EP, Shoot The Lights Out, and a just released single Mystery Music Magic all this year.

White Magic
Comprised of Mira Billotte on vocals and piano, drummer/bassist Miggy Littleton, and guitarist/drummer Andy Mcleod, White Magic at first spent a couple of years playing in New York City before being sign by Drag City in 2003, and in 2004, they released the first EP, Through The Sun Door, to general critical praise. They toured the U.S. opening for like-minded folk musicians Will Oldham and Brightblack Morning Light in 2004 (when the latter band was still known as Brightblack). Throughout 2005, Billotte performed as White Magic accompanied by guitarist Sleepy Doug Shaw. White Magic's current lineup's core consists of these two musicians, aided by an array of friends/musicians of similar musical aesthetics. On November 14, 2006, debut album Dat Rosa Mel Apibus was released on Drag City Records. Billotte's alto has since earned her comparisons to Grace Slick, Karen Dalton, Beth Orton, Dawn McCarthy (of Faun Fables), and Nico. She's eerie and she's haunting, literally placing you in a psychedelic painting of Dali sorts. White Magic's most recently released their '07 EP, Dark Stars, in October and my excitement for their different, yet comfortingly similar sound is overbearing.

Man Man
Based out of Philadelphia, PA, Man Man is an experimental indie band that incorporates Eastern European and circus-esque styles in their music, creating a very unique sound. The band consists of Honus Honus (lead vocals, piano, organ, persussion), Pow Pow (drums and other various percussions), Cougar (trumpet, guitar, percussion), Sergei Sogay (bass, synths, percussion), and Chang Wang(sax, percussion).
Their style has been compared to a mixture of Tom Waits, Frank Zappa, and Captain Beefheart.
Their second album Six Demon Bag is uploaded below. It was released in 2006 following their debut album, The Man in a Blue Turban With A Face.[Six Demon Bag (06).zip]

Celebration
Baltimore based, Celebration is a quickly evolving collaboration of singer Katrina Ford, multi-instrumentalist Sean Antanaitis and drummer David Bergander. The band's sound is centered around the unique output provided by all the instruments played by Antanaitis in the studio as well as live. He plays all of the music in the band including organ, Moog bass pedals, guitorgan and electric keys, leaving Ford to drape the sound with enticing vocals and Bergander with intense drumming. Their self-titled was produced with David Sitek of TV on the Radio and also includes the other members of the band contributing backing vocals on various tracks throughout. In addition to producing, Sitek also contributed guitar parts and synths. Other noteworthy members on the album include Martin Perna and Stewart Bogle who contributed flute and sax into the mix. For their October 2007 sophomore release listeners claim to hear a distinct growth in their style and general performance skill, perhaps much of that can be attributed to Sitek and pressure of touring with a band such as TV on the Radio. When I heard it I was blown away with shock, asking myself is this really the opening band I saw less than a year ago? I was forced to give them another shot. What a come back. Now I'm proud to say that Celebration's, The Modern Tribe, is a definite party for the soul and the ears to attend congenially.
